CONTEXT & STRATEGY

This campaign was created for Waltham Forest College’s Student Awards Evening, a celebration bringing together students, families, staff and employer partners to recognise achievement across the College. The brief asked for a promotional approach that could speak to different audiences while keeping students at the centre of the story.

I wanted the campaign to go beyond the idea of a formal awards ceremony and capture something more human: the quiet, often lonely path behind achievement, where hard work, resilience and personal sacrifice are not always seen in the moment.

The creative concept, “Behind every winner, there is a story,” was built around the idea that success is not only measured by the award itself, but by everything it represents. For many students, achievement is shaped by long nights, early mornings, rewritten work, self-doubt, persistence and the discipline to keep going even when no one is watching. The Student Awards Evening becomes a moment of recognition, but also a landmark in their personal and professional journey. It marks the win, registers it in their life story, and reinforces that they are not just students receiving an award, but winners carrying proof of what they have achieved and what they are capable of becoming.

Behind every winner, there is a story

The academic year can be challenging, and hard work doesn’t always make the headlines. The long nights, the early mornings, the essays rewritten more times than you care to count, and the group projects where you carried more than your share.

But you’re known and seen by us. The Student Awards Evening is a moment to pause and hand you the recognition for your excellence, resilience, and determination. It’s a special benchmark in your career, a symbol you’ll carry with you into the world ahead, showcasing not only what you’ve done, but what you’re capable of doing from here.

Meet the inspiring stories of persistence, growth, and the kind of quiet leadership that helped shape not just classrooms, but whole communities, even when no one was watching. Join us in celebrating those who help make our College outstanding.

The visual identity created for the Student Awards Evening was warmly received by staff, students and employer partners, becoming more than a one-off campaign. Its bold, celebratory and student-centred style was later reused for the Waltham Forest College Skills Competition 2026, and subsequently adopted by the Greater London Skills Competition 2026, extending the campaign’s reach and giving the identity a longer life across wider skills and achievement-focused events.
